Dog Food and Dog Food Ratings
We feed our dogs ACANA which is made by Champion Pet Foods. It contains a minimum of at least 3 regional meat ingredients such as fresh free-run chicken, Pacific salmon, wild caught flaunder, fresh northern Walleye amongst others. What I like about the food is that is made with ingredients that are helpful with allergies. Many dog foods are made or have corn in them which is proven to by highly undigestible. Champion uses the grains that are easily digested and also offer grainless foods which is great for dogs with allergies. My dogs coats shine and are nice and healthy. I have senior dogs that act like puppies at times! I am very happy with the food and recommend it very much! Best of all, the dogs LOVE IT!

One of my seniors requires a food with a relatively low fat content due to intestinal fat build up. I researched many foods and at the same time, wanted a quality food. This sounds much easier than it actually was. Innova was recommended as was Medical Gastro. The Gastro food was wet food which I didn't want to feed wet. I tried the Innova, and she likes it and we have no more flare ups. If you are looking for a food with a relatively low fat content and isn't filled with fillers but has quality ingredients, I also recommend the Innova foods made by Natura Pet.

Fellow breeders also feed Purina Pro Plan. Purina was test marketed in 1986 and was launched nationally in 1987. Pro Plan is also widely used amongst professional handlers and breeders. 86 of the top 100 AKC Champions are fed Pro Plan.

Another interesting website is the Dog Food Analysis site. It rates various kibble food and canned food. This website is not one to base your decision on, but may help answer some questions about the different foods. Dog foods are so controversial and just like humans, dogs like and do differently on foods than some others do. I think what is important is to feed your dog a good food that they have no allergy problems, have the energy they require, get the necessary vitamins, supplements, proteins, carbs that they require. If they are healthy, have a nice shiney coat, clear bright eyes, clean ears, nice teeth, you are feeding a food that agrees with them.
